About Bengal Kittens

As part of the legacy from their wild ancestor, Bengal kittens go through the "Fuzzies" when they grow longer camouflage hairs which blur their color and pattern making it difficult to see what they will look like as an adult. They start to shed this kitten coat and clear up around 16 weeks of age. It seems like every time you look at them, they are coming into focus. Bengals continue to develop their coloring for up to the first two years. It is often times difficult to predict how a particular kitten will appear as an adult. The color on the paws and on the base of the ears gives some indication of the future background color of the kitten....SO does viewing the parents. The best of all possible ways is to look at kittens who were previously produced by the same mating.

All of our kittens are raised in the house with lots of love and attention. We have devised various games and play equipment to test temperment and intelligence, so that we really have a good idea of individual kitten personalities and abilities.

We provide a written health guarantee which covers any congenital defects up to one year of age and also that the kitten is coming to you in a healthy condition. If you purchase a kitten from us, you must take it to your vet within three days for a health exam in order to activate this guarantee. If any unsatisfactory conditions are found, call us immediately. At that point, you may return the kitten for another kitten. If a congenital condition shows up during the first 12 months of the kitten's life, we will replace it, subject to the terms and conditions of the contract. We annually screen our breeding cats for HCM, a hereditary heart disease and are one of the very few catteries offering a guarantee against HCM up to six years of age. Please review the health guarantee clause in the contract.

Prices: for pet quality kittens range from $400 upwards, depending on generation and pattern, but typically average between $650 & $850. A "pet quality" kitten or cat doesn't just mean that the cat will be a pet, but how the kitten compares to the our vision of the ideal Bengal. Top quality kittens are those which come closest to our desired breeding goals. Top quality kittens prices start at $1000 and range upward as high as $3500. If you want to put a $100 deposit down for a pet kitten, you may send money via www.paypal to kittens@rainforestbengals.com. These deposits are honored in the order in which they arrive and will allow you to pick a particular kitten as they become available. By the time the kitten is 8 weeks, this deposit must be increased to 50% of the purchase price of the kitten in order to reserve that particular kitten. These deposits are non-refundable.

The kittens usually start to eat solid food around 4 weeks old. By the time they are weaned at 6-8 weeks old, they are eating well. We feed Royal Canin dry "Baby Cat" kibble when they are very young and transition them to Innova EVO by the time they leave here. The also are weaned onto a special mixture of organic chicken meat.

By the time they are 10-14 weeks old they are ready to come to your home and are eating Innova canned meat and Innova EVO kibble. Premium quality food and human grade meat is a must, as added hormones preservatives, poor quality meat or "meat by-products" are the cause of many health problems later on.

It used to be that the recommended age to go to their new forever home was 8 wks, but that has changed to the older age of 10-14 weeks when their immune systems are more functional. At this older age, they are fully weaned and more ready to be independent of their mother and siblings.
